The Inaugural Welsh Futnet Tournament
On Saturday 17th December the first ever Welsh futnet tournament took place. It was played in singles and the participation – considering the fact that is was the first Welsh event of this kind – was highly satisfactory.
According to one of the organisers, Mr Paul Whelan, the tournament succeeded in making the first step towards increasing awareness of futnet in Wales, which will hopefully lead to the formation of a national team in the near future. Click here to read more about the event.
A team composed of Welsh players is planning to take part in the next round of Northern Ireland Futnet League on 22 January in Belfast, preceded the day before by a friendly match against a team from Northern Ireland.
Assessment of first futnet season in Basque Country
Futnet in the Basque Country started off only about 18 months ago, but thanks to the great efforts and personal involvement of all members of the Basque Futnet Association (AVAFUT), it has made a real progress and is one of the examples to follow. The first Basque futnet league, futnet initiation courses, two Christmas tournaments and last, but definitely not least, EFTA European Championships for Women and Juniors are just some of the activities accomplished by AVAFUT in their first futnet season. Futnet in Latin America
Very positive news have arrived from the Latin American continent where, after an active communication with UNIF, the Paraguay Futnet Asociation has been set up recently, awaiting a legal registration at the corresponding national authority early this year. There is a strong chance that a Paraguayan representative might come as an observer in December to the World Championship in the Czech Republic. After complying with UNIF membership conditions, the new association hopes to join UNIF as soon as possible.
UNIF President David Solano is planning a trip to Chile in April or May this year during which he is due to meet Chilean futnet promoters. He will also meet the representative of the Paraguay Futnet Association. Thanks to his active involvement and communication with new countries, Mr Solano is helping to raise interest in futnet and its international competitive dimension on the Latin American continent.
Futnet and footvolley
Regular communication is held with Mr Christian Prévost, Vice-President of International Footvolley Federation (FIFV), and talks are underway on the possible collaboration of the governing bodies of both sports, inter alia, through encouraging mutual participation at each other’s events.
World Championship 2012
As already announced, the date of the Men’s World Championship in Nymburk, Czech Republic, has been confirmed. The event will take place on 7-9 December this year and it is very likely to feature a record attendance, both in terms of participants and spectators. The official invitation to all futnet countries will be sent out soon.
