Futnet going strong in Denmark
Last two weeks have confirmed that futnet in Denmark is definitely growing stronger and stronger and that the hard work of Danish players and officials under the leadership of Pavel Masek, President of Danish Futnet Association, is starting to pay off.
Last weekend, 2 and 3 June, UNIF Refereeing Course was organised in Copenhagen by Danish Futnet Association in cooperation with UNIF. The course lecturer was Mr Vlastimil Stehlik, Head of UNIF Technical Committee.
The theory was dealt with on Saturday while the practical part took part on Sunday. All eight referee hopefuls did well and some of them can certainly have a future as international futnet referees. Sunday included a tournament where futnet rules (and skills) were put to practice. Course participants and Danish futnet players took part also in a futnet exhibition that took place during a beach soccer tournament held in the centre of the city. After the exhibition everybody could have a go at a game of futnet against registered Danish players under the supervision as well as active participation of the Head of UNIF Technical Committee. Danish television was present at the event and the footage, including an interview about futnet, will appear on television during the week. Here you can find some great pictures from the practical part of the course as well as the promotion event (photos by Søren Friberg).
Talking about Danish futnet activities, one cannot forget to mention that the weekend before the course, on Sunday 27 May, the biggest theme park in Denmark, Tivoli, hosted a futnet tournament in dobles with 16 teams of mostly junior’s age. The tournament was a part of a big sporting event organised by Brian Laudrup, one of the most famous footballers in Danish history, and Lars Høgh, the former goalkeeper of the Danish footbal national team and currently their coach for goalkeepers.
The highlight of the event was first the exhibition by Lars Høgh and Ebbe Sand (former striker of the Danish national team and now their coach for strikers) who were then replaced on the court by the players of the new Danish champion FC Nordsjælland for a “single run-around” (players form a queue, the first one from the first group serves the ball and runs around the net pole to the other side while the first one from the second group has to return the ball over the net and also run around to join the other group and so on and so forth until someone fails to pass the ball onto the other side and is out). The event was great fun and like the promotion tournament last Sunday, certainly helped raise futnet’s profile in Denmark.

At UNIF we appreciate the great efforts of all Danish players and officials in the promotion of our sport in their country and are very pleased to hear that for the first time in history, Denmark will be represented at this year’s World Championships not only in women’s category, but also in the men’s tournament! Det er fantastisk!
