European Championship Day 2
Second day of Men’s European Championship, with a very busy schedule featuring group matches in the triple and semifinals and finals in all disciplines, brought a great joy and success to one participating country.
But let’s go through the events of the day as they happened. First the group matches in the triple in the morning created the expected semifinal pairs Czech Republic – France and Slovakia – Switzerland. The group matches were followed by the final standings matches in this discipline.
The afternoon saw all the semifinals and finals as welll as interesting futnet exhibitions by children and adult players of Corsica. The supporters could also enjoy the dancing performances of a Corsican modern dance group.
Some of the semifinals kept the fans on the edge of their seat and though, in the end, did not bring any surprise, especially the match in the triple between France and Czech Republic could very easily end with the victory of the hosting country. They won the first set and were doing very well in the second one, but the Czechs used all their skill and experience and managed to prevent what would be the biggest surprise of the championship.
So, the finals in all categories saw the matches between Slovakia and the Czech Republic who, without doubt, are currently the best two futnet countries in the world.
The matches for the third place between France and Switzerland brought some really nerve-wrecking moments for the supporters of both teams. France was better in the singles and was very close to winning the bronze also in the doubles and the triples, but in the end, the luck was on the Swiss side.
The final matches offered a traditionally high-quality futnet with killer smashes, powerful service and technical tricks that demonstrated the real spectacularity of our sport. The great team spirit and determination of all the players helped the Slovaks to dominate the finals and resulted in their historic victory in all three disciplines.
Here you will find the results of group matches and here the final results as well as other infos about the participants of the Championship. A selection of graphic materials may be found at our photo gallery.
We hope to bring you the opinions and comments of some of the EC participants very soon on our EFTA webpage.
Thanks to all the participants for the great efforts, to the organisers for their hospitality and excellent promotion work and congratulations to the futnet champion of 2011, the team of Slovakia!
